IPC Files Patent Application for Sensiva Health's Proprietary Method of Testing COVID-19 Patients5/22/2020
IPC has filed a patent application on behalf of client, Sensiva Health, covering a proprietary algorithm of testing COVID-19 patients using a combination of available diagnostics, public health data and eventual vaccination data to risk stratify individuals so they may return to the workforce and begin to interact normally with others while still minimizing the future impact of possible reinfection.
According to Jim Silliman, MD, President of Sensiva Health, "We developed our risk stratification method with the goal of enabling employers, local, and federal agencies to implement a testing plan to have citizens more safely return to work and community during the COVID-19 pandemic." IPC has sought expedited examination of the patent application for its client, and through Sensiva's affiliate Cormeum Lab Services, LL,C, has filed for Emergency Use Authorization through the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. At this time, Sensiva's COVID-19 PCR+Antigen/Antibody Test is only available through medical professionals. Read more here. IPC attorney Ian Barras successfully assisted client, Lucas Steele, with obtaining US Patent No 10,557,644 on his adjustable drip pan, or water-impermeable basin for collecting water, designed to be installed into hard-to-access spaces. Steele, of LJ Steele Air Conditioning & Heat LLC, through his years of experience in A/C installation and repair, recognized a need to be able to retrofit or replace a water catching device for centralized air conditioning units into awkward or hard to reach places. Centralized air conditioning units contain condenser coils, which can cause water vapor to condense and drip. Most units address this problem by use of some form of a drip pan, which can be connected to a drain, or use float switches to detect the presence of water. However, certain types of centralized air conditioning units, in particular, vertically-oriented evaporator units, are installed in homes in such a fashion that replacing or otherwise servicing the drip pan can be very difficult. Steele’s invention of an adjustable drip pan with an integrated float switch designed to retrofit under awkwardly placed central air conditioning units is a remarkable achievement in his industry, and we are happy to celebrate this accomplishment with him. IPC represented the McCue Family Trust in a patent infringement suit against Adidas. The lawsuit was based on the claim that Adidas’ new 4D midsole design infringes U.S. Pat. No. 9,271,542, titled “Apparatus for Damping an Applied Force” and originally filed by inventor Geoff McCue. The McCue Family Trust filed its suit in the US District Court for the District of Middle Louisiana against Adidas for patent infringement, alleging that Adidas used McCue’s patented shock-absorbing technology in its Futurecraft 4D shoe without permission. The parties were able to amicably resolve the dispute. IPC attorneys routinely represent inventors in enforcing their patent rights against entities large and small.
